Local Business Directory: WP Plugin

If you are interested in building a local business directory and you are using the wordpress platform you might want to consider this plugin. It easily allows for you to create a hyperlocal business directory which can offer both free and paid listings. Advertisers receive their own private logins so that they can easily maintain listings.
You can also mass import listings, run multiple categories and turn on and off features for multiple subscription levels.

I spent an evening reviewing this plugin for potential use and have to say that after looking at all of the samples websites only a few actually look like they have any real listings. Then on top of this only a few of these directories then look like they might have paid listings. A few of the things you will need to consider if you are looking into using such a plugin are questions like: Does the billing system work, what if someone payment fails, does it turn off the listing, or you will you have to be involve manually.

Last but not least once you build your directory how will you notify your community and get traffic to the site.

I still think the plugin has potential, and I can see that it hasn’t been fully utilized yet.
