Media By the People and for the People

constitution_quill_penI had renewed hope today when I read one or our new
online interview submissions. It was a story written by a young woman
who has opened a new dance studio in our town.

I had asked here if she wanted to do an interview and she agreed.
I then emailed her my interview questions and left her on her
own to write whatever response she so choose.{{{gold}}}

I even invited her to change any of the questions as I always do
with any of my interview in LocalsGuide.

I do this for one reason and one reason only . I firmly believe
that it is not my job or any ones to r-tell another persons story.
But rather it is their job as a living breathing individual to step
forward and articulate their own truthful and individual experience.

When she sent me her interview questions back I was very impressed.
She gave it to me saying. “I’m not a writer, so I might need some help.”

I didn’t pay much attention to that thought since many first time citizen journalists
often discredit themselves. After all this is their big debut.

They can make it or break it all for themselves.

What I found in her replies to my questions were some very straight forward and beautiful answers. Experience and depths to a story that would have in no way been within my grasp as an outside source.

Now over 30,000 people will get to be inspired and see more deeply into this individual who told their own story, in their own words and from their own experience.

This is the beauty of allowing people to create their own media
Think about… who’s life is it really!
